Widelux and Mr Bridges
Stumbled on 2 closely related gems today while madly dashing my way through the series of tubes we so calmly call the "internet".
1- jeff bridges home page.
B- widelux F-8
Actor Jeff Bridges keeps a really beautifully put together page, it so fun and playful, makes you want to open and close all the doors he put in front of you. Behind one of the doors, is info about his love for amateur photography, more specifically, his love for shooting black and white panoramics with a vintage widelux F-8. he recently published a book of his photos from behind the scenes of his films. both are very worth investigating for yourself, i promise.

Gadget, noise canceling headphones
just picked up the new Audio-technica active noise canceling headphones. If you arnt familiar with this technology, they basically throw out an opposing sound wave to kill incoming unwanted noise.

INLAND EMPIRE
David Lynch's new film, INLAND EMPIRE, opened nationwide in japan last night. here is my tale or horror, awe and unparalleled hallucinatory confusion.
7:26 pm - enter 50 seat theater with bottle of water and bag of peanuts
7:34 pm - lights dim, hiding the faces of all 8 people in attendance
7:40 pm - slight smile creeps onto my face at the realization of a full length feature shot via hand held dv.
7:41 pm - 10:32 pm - trying to climb out of the rabbbit hole that dropped me in a rabbbit hole that dropped me in a rabbbit hole that dropped me in a rabbbit hole.
10:33 pm - exit theater with 5 other patrons (somehow in the explosion we lost 2 men)

it's up to you...
my friend is a prostitute, a really beautiful and successful prostitute. she has been at it for a long time, and very good at what she does. i am excited to announce that after all these years she is finally free of the constant back handing dished out by her pimp, and is only now experiencing honest freedom. due to her financial success, she no longer does what she does for the money, she does it because she truly loves her work. because of this, she has decided that her customers no longer pay the rate that her pimp previously required, but now get to pay what ever they think her product is worth, no really, its up to you! wait... i think im getting this confused with Radioheads's new album

Sunshine vs. Monster's Ball
strolling through the isles of my local video rental shop today, and much to my surprise is Danny Boyle's newest film, sunshine. i was a bit confused because its fairly new, and japan typically gets film muuuuuch later than the states.
watched it, enjoyed the nerdyness, found the unrealistic science easy to overlook due to the great slow panning shots that mr boyle has made a fine career out of.as the credits roll, i notice that DNA films is responsible for the making of sunshine, which is based in London, which tells me all about why i am renting this film in japan and you are not (assuming you are in the states), which is the same reason that i read Haruki Murakami's newest book, after dark, 2 years ago (it just hit stores in USA this summer), which is why the absolute greedy lock down of anything coming from, managed or produced by, or having anything at all to do with anybody or thing in the states is mind numbing and eventually counterproductive. any suggestions as to how releasing monster's ball on dvd in japan this month is a good idea from the studio that made, promoted and released it elsewhere 6 years ago? yeah, me neither
