Transhumanism

"I’m a modern man, a man for the millennium. Digital and smoke free. A diversified multi-cultural, post-modern deconstruction that is anatomically and ecologically incorrect. I’ve been up linked and downloaded, I’ve been inputted and outsourced, I know the upside of downsizing, I know the downside of upgrading. I’m a high-tech low-life. A cutting edge, state-of-the-art bi-coastal multi-tasker and I can give you a gigabyte in a nanosecond! I’m new wave, but I’m old school and my inner child is outward bound. I’m a hot-wired, heat seeking, warm-hearted cool customer, voice activated and bio-degradable. I interface with my database, my database is in cyberspace, so I’m interactive, I’m hyperactive and from time to time I’m radioactive. Behind the eight ball, ahead of the curve, ridin the wave, dodgin the bullet and pushin the envelope. I’m on-point, on-task, on-message and off drugs. I’ve got no need for coke and speed. I've got no urge to binge and purge. I’m in-the-moment, on-the-edge, over-the-top and under-the-radar. A high-concept, low-profile, medium-range ballistic missionary. A street-wise smart bomb. A top-gun bottom feeder. I wear power ties, I tell power lies, I take power naps and run victory laps. I’m a totally ongoing big-foot, slam-dunk, rainmaker with a pro-active outreach. A raging workaholic. A working rageaholic. Out of rehab and in denial! I’ve got a personal trainer, a personal shopper, a personal assistant and a personal agenda. You can’t shut me up. You can’t dumb me down because I’m tireless and I’m wireless, I’m an alpha male on beta-blockers. I’m a non-believer and an over-achiever, laid-back but fashion-forward. Up-front, down-home, low-rent, high-maintenance. Super-sized, long-lasting, high-definition, fast-acting, oven-ready and built-to-last! I’m a hands-on, foot-loose, knee-jerk head case pretty maturely post-traumatic and I’ve got a love-child that sends me hate mail. But, I’m feeling, I’m caring, I’m healing, I’m sharing-- a supportive, bonding, nurturing primary care-giver. My output is down, but my income is up. I took a short position on the long bond and my revenue stream has its own cash-flow. I read junk mail, I eat junk food, I buy junk bonds and I watch trash sports! I’m gender specific, capital intensive, user-friendly and lactose intolerant. I like rough sex. I like tough love. I use the “F” word in my emails and the software on my hard-drive is hardcore--no soft porn. I bought a microwave at a mini-mall; I bought a mini-van at a mega-store. I eat fast-food in the slow lane. I’m toll-free, bite-sized, ready-to-wear and I come in all sizes. A fully-equipped, factory-authorized, hospital-tested, clinically-proven, scientifically- formulated medical miracle. I’ve been pre-wash, pre-cooked, pre-heated, pre-screened, pre-approved, pre-packaged, post-dated, freeze-dried, double-wrapped, vacuum-packed and, I have an unlimited broadband capacity. I’m a rude dude, but I’m the real deal. Lean and mean! Cocked, locked and ready-to-rock. Rough, tough and hard to bluff. I take it slow, I go with the flow, I ride with the tide. I’ve got glide in my stride. Drivin and movin, sailin and spinin, jiving and groovin, wailin and winnin. I don’t snooze, so I don’t lose. I keep the pedal to the metal and the rubber on the road. I party hearty and lunch time is crunch time. I’m hangin in, there ain’t no doubt and I’m hangin tough, over and out!"

Widelux and Mr Bridges

Stumbled on 2 closely related gems today while madly dashing my way through the series of tubes we so calmly call the "internet".

1- jeff bridges home page.

B- widelux F-8

Actor Jeff Bridges keeps a really beautifully put together page, it so fun and playful, makes you want to open and close all the doors he put in front of you. Behind one of the doors, is info about his love for amateur photography, more specifically, his love for shooting black and white panoramics with a vintage widelux F-8. he recently published a book of his photos from behind the scenes of his films. both are very worth investigating for yourself, i promise.

INLAND EMPIRE

David Lynch's new film, INLAND EMPIRE, opened nationwide in japan last night. here is my tale or horror, awe and unparalleled hallucinatory confusion.

7:26 pm - enter 50 seat theater with bottle of water and bag of peanuts

7:34 pm - lights dim, hiding the faces of all 8 people in attendance

7:40 pm - slight smile creeps onto my face at the realization of a full length feature shot via hand held dv.

7:41 pm - 10:32 pm - trying to climb out of the rabbbit hole that dropped me in a rabbbit hole that dropped me in a rabbbit hole that dropped me in a rabbbit hole.

10:33 pm - exit theater with 5 other patrons (somehow in the explosion we lost 2 men)

Sunshine vs. Monster's Ball

strolling through the isles of my local video rental shop today, and much to my surprise is Danny Boyle's newest film, sunshine. i was a bit confused because its fairly new, and japan typically gets film muuuuuch later than the states.
watched it, enjoyed the nerdyness, found the unrealistic science easy to overlook due to the great slow panning shots that mr boyle has made a fine career out of.
as the credits roll, i notice that DNA films is responsible for the making of sunshine, which is based in London, which tells me all about why i am renting this film in japan and you are not (assuming you are in the states), which is the same reason that i read Haruki Murakami's newest book, after dark, 2 years ago (it just hit stores in USA this summer), which is why the absolute greedy lock down of anything coming from, managed or produced by, or having anything at all to do with anybody or thing in the states is mind numbing and eventually counterproductive. any suggestions as to how releasing monster's ball on dvd in japan this month is a good idea from the studio that made, promoted and released it elsewhere 6 years ago? yeah, me neither

Gadget, Canon 400D

picked up the newestish canon SLR camera back in january, and have really been beating it up for the past 9 months. here is what i think about it.

+ takes great pics in 6 different modes
+ up to 10.1 megapix (raw)
+ an infinite amount of accessories (lenses, flashes, battery mods, cases...)
+ tourist auto mode if you cant be bothered to set up a great shot
+ bulb mode for trigger shooting
+ automatically reconfigures for portrait position
+ really simple to use, some SLR's can be a bit intimidating, but this cam is pretty stripped down
+ 2.5 inch LCD
+ .2 second start up time
- kind of heavy
- kind of fragile
- kind of pricey (was around 1,000 bucks, can be found now for $600)
Final score: if you want more than your point and shoot has to offer, this is a wonderful direction to go.

Self Comment

this is a self comment about the last post, "muslim id's". after posting about an hour ago, i started thinking....this idea of the majority religion of a country wanting the members of another faith to wear badges sounds so familiar... hmm... i cant quite put my finger on it... think ian, think... one group wanting another to be visually identifiable... hmm... oh yeah, it was called Nazi Germany. Sickening. While we are on the topic, read THIS great post about modern american nazis by my friend joe surdna.

A Feeling I'm Being Had

by Scott Adams

I was happy to hear that NYC didn't allow Iranian President Ahmadinejad to place a wreath at the WTC site. And I was happy that Columbia University is rescinding the offer to let him speak. If you let a guy like that express his views, before long the entire world will want freedom of speech.

I hate Ahmadinejad for all the same reasons you do. For one thing, he said he wants to "wipe Israel off the map." Scholars tell us the correct translation is more along the lines of wanting a change in Israel's government toward something more democratic, with less gerrymandering. What an ass-muncher!

Ahmadinejad also called the holocaust a "myth." Fuck him! A myth is something a society uses to frame their understanding of their world, and act accordingly. It's not as if the world created a whole new country because of holocaust guilt and gives it a free pass no matter what it does. That's Iranian crazy talk. Ahmadinejad can blow me.

Most insulting is the fact that "myth" implies the holocaust didn't happen. Fuck him for saying that! He also says he won't dispute the historical claims of European scientists. That is obviously the opposite of saying the holocaust didn't happen, which I assume is his way of confusing me. God-damned fucker.

Furthermore, why does an Iranian guy give a speech in his own language except for using the English word "myth"? Aren't there any Iranian words for saying a set of historical facts has achieved an unhealthy level of influence on a specific set of decisions in the present? He's just being an asshole.

Ahmadinejad believes his role is to pave the way for the coming of the Twelfth Imam. That's a primitive apocalyptic belief! I thank Jesus I do not live in a country led by a man who believes in that sort of bullshit. Imagine how dangerous that would be, especially if that man had the launch codes for nuclear weapons.

The worst of the worst is that Ahmadinejad's country is helping the Iraqis kill American soldiers. If Iran ever invades Canada, I think we'd agree the best course of action for the United States is to be constructive and let things sort themselves out. Otherwise we'd be just as evil as the Iranians. Those fuckers.

Those Iranians need to learn from the American example. In this country, if the clear majority of the public opposes the continuation of a war, our leaders will tell us we're terrorist-humping idiots and do whatever they damn well please. They might even increase our taxes to do it. That's called leadership.

If Ahmadinejad thinks he can be our friend by honoring our heroes and opening a dialog, he underestimates our ability to misinterpret him. Fucking idiot. I hate him.
